In the latest SPEC CPU2006 test result ranking, Inspur 8-way server TS860 created two best scores in the performance tests based on Intel E7-8860 V2 processor. It displays Inspur’s design and optimization ability in the sector of large-size critical computing platform and the best performances in the mainstream 8-way server configurations.

Inspur has always been leading the market in the R&D and market application of high-end server products. According to latest statistics, Inspur already ranked No.1 in China and No.3 in the world in terms of 8-way server shipment in the first half of 2014.

SPEC(The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation) is an authoritative organization for evaluation of system application performances in the international computer industry and has a history of 20+ years. The test results released by this organization have been extensively recognized by a multitude of users in the world and its various types of test results have become important references to financial, energy, transportation and large-scale manufacturing enterprises in actual applications. The test ranking of this organization is also the authoritative platform on which various enterprises demonstrate their technical prowess.

SPEC CPU2006 is the basic test of the computing capacity of a multi-processor server, including general performance test CINT and floating point performance test CFP, and can fully evaluate the system’s computing performances. 8-way servers are mostly used to undertake such critical applications as database and large-scale middleware as well as the fat nodes of HPC. Computing performance is the base that determines the actual application performances of the system. Many professional users would refer to SPEC CPU2006 test results during purchase of 8-way and other large-scale servers.

Inspur TS860 has created the best scores, i.e. 3220 and 2540 in general performance test CINT and floating point performance test CFP respectively. The TS860 that undergoes the test is configured with eight E7-8860 V2 processors. According to Chen Changhao, general manager of Inspur Mainframe System Department, we focus more on the references to actual applications. Judging from the distribution of 8-way server products, the 8-way servers with E7-8860 V2 processor has the highest share in practical applications.

Inspur TS860

Inspur has lots of experiences in the design and optimization of large-scale computing systems and has broken the world records in SPEC and TPC tests for 16 times. According to Hu Leijun, vice president of Inspur Group, the longitudinal scalability of system is the perennial technical goal of the IT industry. Inspur has successfully developed China’s first patented mainframe system, i.e. Tiansuo K1 system which can be expanded to 32 processors. It has also designed the closely coupled and shared storage architecture with double expandable wings. This architecture has acquired PCT international patent. As such, Inspur has become the fifth enterprise to master the processor interconnection technology in the world. With such technical advantages, Inspur can optimize the 8-way servers as a whole on a deeper level. According to the Inspur engineer liable for the test, Inspur not only adjusted and optimized the parameters on the operating system, BIOS and other levels, but also optimized the CPU working mechanism during the testing.

TS860 which undergoes the test is a brand-new 8-way server independently developed by Inspur. It is based on Intel Xeon E7V2 platform and has 60+ RAS features with a reliability of 99.999%. It is furnished with the industry-leading high-speed interconnection design and its internal memory, PCI-E and other sub-modules are all furnished with the highest specifications in the industry. Compared with the previous generation of products, it has 2 times the computing capacity or even better, five times the I/O bandwidth and six times the memory capacity and therefore has high application values.

Inspur is the earliest domestic manufacturer that independently develops an 8-way server and has the highest market share in this regard today. In 2010, Inspur started its efforts in the 8-way server market and ranked No.3 in the market in the same year. According to IDC statistics, Inspur’s 8-way server shipment has increased by over 4 times so far, ranking No.1 in China and No.3 in the world in the first half of 2014 and accounting for 35% of the Chinese market, far ahead of other brands. Moreover, Inspur has fairly stable advantages in the market. In the past six quarters, its cumulative shipment accounted for 33% of the Chinese market and was leading far ahead of the immediate follower IBM.

According to IDC statistics, the sales revenues of 8-way servers increased by 47.5% on a YOY basis in the first half of 2014 and the growth speed was 1.5 times the general growth speed of the server market. According to relevant experts, China’s informatization is developing from extensive development stage to intensive development stage and the main construction mode is also transforming from new system deployment to system architecture integration. With the deepening of industrial cloud computing and big data application and the increasing demands for mobile applications, industrial users are more concerned with the IT architecture integrating ability. Enterprises with advantages in the high-end market will have a brighter development prospect.
