Released on October 27th, 2014

From October 23rd to 24th, Inspur World meeting was held at Beijing Jiuhua Spa & Resort. During the “Internet Technology and Innovation” forum, experts of the data centers of Inspur, Alibaba, Baidu, Sohu, Qihoo, Kingsoft Cloud Group and other Internet enterprises discussed on the technical routing and solution of the next-generation data centers. According to Wang Hongli, vice president of Inspur Group, the Internet service providers need to have brand-new data centers in the cloud computing era. During the reform, Inspur will play an important role as it offers total-process customized products and services to Internet customers. It will work together with Alibaba, Baidu, NetEase and other Internet service providers to jointly promote IPDC reforms.

Data center reforms start from the Internet

Inspur Vice President Wang Hongli Delivering a Keynote Speech

Internet is the pioneer sector of data center reforms. As Wang said, the innovative technologies of data centers are always first applied in the Internet industry before other industries. According to a survey report of Boston Consulting Group, the contribution of the Internet economy to China’s GDP will increase from 5.5% in 2010 to 6.9% in 2016 and the Internet economy’s ratio to China’s national economy will be the third highest in the world then.

Consequently, the data centers will keep expanding in China. At the end of 2010, there were 47 large-scale data centers in China, or about 1/2 of that of Japan. At the end of 2013, there were 149 large-scale data centers in China, far more than those in Japan. However, the data centers still fail to satisfy the access loads and meet the challenges in cost and flexibility. Obviously, the development of new-generation information technology will facilitate the reforms of data centers.

Inspur develops patented technologies in three sectors

According to Wang Hongli, the reforms of a data center will evolve in three technical directions, i.e. green energy saving, increasing granularity of the objects where a data center is deployed and resource pooling. Inspur offers rich solutions in all three directions. Moreover, these solutions have been applied in a large scale.

More green solutions

Energy efficiency is still the No. 1 concern of all. A data center that accommodates 100,000 servers consumes electricity in a value of at least 400 million Yuan each year. Therefore, the service providers spare no effort to develop green and energy-efficient data centers. Inspur offers service-proven products with low power consumptions, new power supply modes and natural air cooling.

Sun Bo, Product Director of Inspur Internet Department, is Introducing Innovative Products and Solutions

Zhang Shu, Thermal Design Expert of Alibaba Data Center, is Introducing Technical Strategies of Heat Radiation

Inspur HV DC servers are furnished with A-2 power source to aid the power supply system reforms of data centers, change the dual-UPS power supply architecture of a traditional IDC and reduce the general power consumption by 15%. The heat-resistant and corrosionproof servers specifically developed for data centers with natural air cooling address the problem of corrosion of elements by sulfides in the air. They can also work at a high temperature of 40 degrees Celsius for the long term so that it becomes possible for the large-scale application of natural air-cooled data centers in China. This product has been successfully deployed in the world’s largest Chinese search engine.

Data center big granule deployment speed increases by 10 times

Integrating various computing, storage and network devices into larger-scale standard data center granules can substantially increase the deployment speed of data centers and hence enable a data center to better respond to sudden expansion requirements. The Internet sector develops and changes rapidly and usually requires massive deployment of server equipment within a short period of time. Therefore, the data center granules are extensively adopted by service providers.

Chen Guofeng, Baidu North Pole Project Manager, was introducing Baidu’s customized technical products in the meeting.

The most mainstream solution is the cabinet server. Inspur is the first domestic developer and manufacturer of cabinet servers and its SmartRack product has been upgraded to the 4th generation. This product conforms to Scorpion 2.0 standards and 4,500 nodes can be deployed on a single day, more than 10 times that of traditional servers. Moreover, the deployment density and speed can be increased by 13.8% and 10 times respectively and the power consumption and TCO can be reduced by over 12% and 15% respectively. Alibaba, Baidu and other large-scale Internet enterprises have adopted this product in a large scale. This product currently has a market share of over 60%. So far, Inspur has developed the micromodule data center MDC with a higher granularity which has been applied by China Telecom Hangzhou and NetEase.

Uniform pooling of different resources

Resource pooling includes not only the resources of computing, storage and network functional modules, but also the resources of dissipation, power supply and other auxiliary modules. Resource pooling can effectively improve equipment utilization and reduce unnecessary power consumptions. Inspur SmartRack 4.0 has realized the concentration of various types of resources and the separate pooling of computing, storage and network resources. The next-generation SmartRack can realize the uniform pooling of the three resources. Resources can be automatically allocated according to application needs.

Total-process customization

The technical innovations of Internet data centers not only require customized products and solutions from server manufacturers, but also the total-process participation by server manufacturers. As such, they are required to provide customization services in the total process covering R&D, production, supply and service. Inspur has provided customization services to the Internet sector for ten-plus years and accumulated sufficient experiences in this regard.

Technically, Inspur has developed from an OEM to an ODM and can thus respond to customer needs rapidly and turn R&D achievements into products within the shortest possible time. In production and supply, Inspur can guarantee a lead time between 3 to 7 working days relying on its two production lines in the south and north of China. In service, Internet service providers can enjoy a green service channel and preferential spare part guarantees.

Today, Inspur has one of the fullest product lines and the largest server shipment in the Internet industry. In the first quarter, Inspur accounted for over 40% of the market. Other than Alibaba, Baidu and NetEast, Sina, Sohu, CCTV, YHD, Suning, Womai, 360, Pingan, ChinaCache, 21Vianet and Qunar are also on its customer list. Moreover, Inspur also offers various types of solutions for the restructuring of traditional enterprises towards the Internet and helps them to realize the uniform operations of online and offline businesses. The most representative enterprises include Suning, Pingan and Coolpad. With the further integration of the Internet and industry, Inspur is expected to further expand its development room among industries.
